When the strong rays of hope
Dispel the lingering fog of despair
How can one not hope?
When the gentle caress of love
Erases the creases of hate
How can one not love?
When the flowing stream of compassion
Smoothens the pebbles of discord
How can one not be gentle?
When the soft words of comfort
Extinguish the flames of hatred
How can one be harsh?
When the shining beacons of intellect
Guide one through treacherous waves of stupidity
How can one not be wise?
Like a cool breeze, that comes out of nowhere to soothe
When a stranger, with nothing to gain, appears to help
How can one nurture distrust?
When the strong banks of justice
Hold back the raging river that is divisive
How can one not be just?
When people, even if less in numbers, with good
intentions
Stand tall and unflinching in the face of oppression
How can one not be inspired?
When fearless journalists question the ranks
Like the “tank man” who braved the tanks
How can one lose hope?
When everything looks hopelessly dark
And you know that it is the darkest before dawn
How can one not hope?
Hoping that hope does not betray my hope to hope!
Nice way of putting words with both sides like a coin..... Great skill..
ReplyDeleteLike the final quote which is also true, let us hope for best to nurture it from the others's side endless hopes.
Thanks - Can't stop hoping - Hope is all there is -
DeleteNever thought of you as a poet.
ReplyDeleteHope is the light which guides you thru life
Not a real or a capable poet - just a wannabe poet
ReplyDeletestringing words together is more important
Thanks
I'm sure that this helped a lot of people seeking for hope in these tough times. Especially the last couple of lines were just "wow"
ReplyDeleteThanks Ajay

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Lovely poem! I cannot but resonate the same thoughts as I look for guidance to ride the treacherous waves of stupidity that keep coming. But umeed pe to duniya kaayam hai.. we cannot give up hope.
ReplyDeleteA poet saying lovely poem is high praise indeed
DeleteThanks
Brilliant ,as always!!
ReplyDeleteThanks
DeleteIs it stupid to ask for the identity of someone who wants to be known as unknown
Ummeed pe duniya tiki hai. Every thing will be fine , is the most hopeful sentence.
ReplyDeleteAnd hence I hope. Unknowns give me more hope
DeleteUnknown is Sanjay G Deshpande. (Well) Known to you.
